Retail therapy: Shop ’till you drop in Geelong
There’s something so satisfying about strolling through shopping districts with a coffee in hand to collect goods that you don’t exactly need but want. Hooray for non-essential, frivolous shopping, I say.
In town for a spot of shopping? Here’s where you should go.
Market Square
Corner of Malop Street and Moorabool
One of the two major shopping centres in Geelong, Market Square offers around 80 stores that’ll be sure to soothe your shopping itch. You’ll find brands such as Witchery and Mimco, JB HiFi and Cotton On as well as Dymocks and The Athletes Foot. For parents, there’s changing facilities and feeding rooms; microwaves and nappy dispensers. Plus if you pop in at the right time you might even catch yourself a little bit of mall entertainment. Need ideas on where else you can visit while you’re in town? A friendly volunteer at the visitor information booth on Moorabool Street can help you out with all your visitor enquiries.
Westfield
95 Malop Street Geelong
The other major shopping hub in Geelong is the Westfield complex. For your fashion and beauty fix, Westfield Geelong has pretty much got you covered. Here, you’ll find 160 specialty stores plus the brands you know and love: Big W, Target, Myer and Coles. There’s amenities for parents and if you’re feeling hungry, the food court at Westfield will hit the spot.
Geelong Vintage Market
1 Mackey Street, North Geelong
If your ideal day is hitting a garage sale or a thrift store in search of hidden treasures – then Geelong Vintage Market is the place for you. Here, you’ll browse 4,000 sqm of collectable and vintage items; vinyl records and books. You won’t find the mainstream or mass-produced here. It’s all one-off, rare and quirky. Plus you’ll get the bragging rights of saying “oh this? It’s vintage” if anyone ever asks where you got your outfit from. Driving? There are 200 free car parks onsite.
The Mill Markets
114 Bellarine Hwy, Newcomb VIC 3219
Another haven for vintage aficionados, the Mill Markets is a place you can get lost in. Here you’ll find an eclectic assemblage of wares that harken back to days gone by. From vintage clothing to fine china, glassware to industrial items; antiques to records – there’s a little something for everyone at the Mill Markets.
